Mental refreshers after a stressful day.

Letting go of our stressful day is often hard for many of us to do. We often take our stress from work, school or wherever it may be coming from home with us forgetting to leave it all at the door.  I want to share a few tips with you on how to relax and free your mind from the burden of stress.

  1. 1. Keep a journal and write down your thoughts.

You may or may not like writing, writing can be a bit daunting to some, in this case you can keep a recording journal. Journaling can truly help release stress, letting all those feelings escape from your mind that has been caged in all day. Write down or record what has been on your mind- worries, sadness, loneliness, anxiousness and even anger. Whatever it may be get it out of your head and clear your mind. You will be able to breathe easier, take control of your emotions and recognize the things that are important and worthy in your life.

  1. 2. Listen to Quran or nasheeds.

Press play on that playlist of yours if you do not have one make one. Slow, upbeat or a combination of both, whatever makes you feel relaxed. Nasheeds can help put you in a good mood and brighten your day, if you know the lyrics let go and sing along. We all know that the Quran speaks to our hearts and most of the time that is all we need. Find a quiet place where you can lay back and just listen, really listen, close your eyes, and allow yourself to be soothed. The calmness is so peaceful.

3. Get some fresh air.

Take a walk or simply sit on your stoop/porch. Sip some lemon aid or iced tea, take in the vitamins the sun has to offer, relax your mind and inhale the clean fresh air, add dhikr.

4. Read a book.

Relax on the couch or in bed and drift away with a book. Choose a book that will allow you to forget about your problems. Religious, drama, mystery, comedy, whatever you feel you need at that time.

5. Exercise.

This seems to be a big one with many. Exercising can help ease your mind and release stress. Workout at home, go to the gym, go for a run, do yoga, play ball, or go for a bike ride.

I did not suggest taking a nap because I am not a fan of naps while stressed. I do not know if anyone else has this problem, but I always wake up with a horrible headache when I take naps while stressed out. Can anyone else relate?  Also would anyone like to suggest a book we should read, or a surah that calms you down? would you like to share your playlist or share a hobby that relaxes you? please feel free to share.

  1. Great post! In the last few years my stress level has been at an all time high and I’ve been working hard on decreasing it because stress is so dangerous to the mind and body. I love that you mentioned journaling, exercising, and reading/ listening to Quran as these are some of my most favorite practices to do while stressed. I also found that lemon balm tea helps 😊 please look it up if you have not already. I’m loving the positive uplifting vibes here and am looking forward to more in the future.
